Tigers improve to 2-0 with blowout of Boilermakers

Post by darrellet86 » Fri Apr 24, 2020 6:17 pm

Memphis has gotten the new season off to a strong start, with two big wins. After last season's disappointing 7-6 finish, AD Darrelle Thompson wanted to see the team put up a stronger level of urgency on both sides of the ball.

Richard Lawson continues to run the ball with ease, finishing the day with 160 yards on the ground with a score. The bright spot on the offense has been the play of true freshman Floyd Dukes, who after a shaky first game showed the poise needed to win an AAC title.

He threw 3 touchdown passes and was 16/22 through the air. If he can keep up the excellent play it will serve the team well once conference play starts.

The defensive side of the ball pitched a shutout in the second half, and only gave up 76 yards on the ground. The defensive line was the focal point of the defense last year and they are playing at a high level so far.

The linebackers are playing fast and aggressive, with Paul Grantham a force off the edge. He picked up two more sacks to bring his early season total to four.

The next game for Memphis is against the Roadrunners of UT San Antonio, which could be a trap game before Navy comes to town. Stay tuned next week as we recap the Week 3 action.

Recruiting Recap

Losing a week on the recruiting trail due to a mysterious illness with the team, the Tigers have been targeting the trenches and skill positions with this class. We will update you as the team picks up commits this season.
